Visian ICL is an Implantable Collamer Lens that works with the eye to correct vision. Unlike traditional contact lenses that go on the surface of the eye, the Visian ICL is positioned inside the eye between the iris and the natural lens where it stays indefinitely.
The Visian ICL procedure itself involves little or no discomfort (or pain) both during the procedure and through the recovery process. Also, eyesight improvement is almost immediate, and maximum vision is typically achieved within a few days.
Reasons to consider Visian ICL:
Nearsightedness (myopia).
Astigmatism (irregularly shaped cornea).
Corneas too thin for LASIK or PRK.
- Nearsightedness too extreme for LASIK or PRK.
- Severe dry eyes.
The Procedure
Prior to lens implantation, you will receive anesthetic eye drops to minimize any discomfort. Dr. Snyder will create two micro openings in the edge of your cornea that will be used to insert and position the lens. Next then lens is injected, gently unfolding in your eye. Special marks on the lens ensure proper positioning. The procedure takes about 15 minutes.
The Recovery
The patient may go home shortly after the procedure; however, someone else must drive or alternate transportation must be arranged. Patients will be asked to get lots of rest, avoid any strenuous activities, and avoid rubbing the eye area for a period of time. There are follow up appointments with the doctor 24 to 48 hours after the procedure and periodically over the following weeks and months. Vision should dramatically improve in the first few days following surgery. The patient often may return to work in a day or two, though it is best to take a few days off to ensure a smooth recovery. Dr. Snyder will prescribe eye drops to help prevent infection and inflammation and you will use these drops for several days once you are home.
